Why Running Is Bad
For some, running is not necessarily bad, but if you are carrying extra weight, it can be disastrous.
Running As A Bigger Guy
Unless you have the classic runners build, running puts entirely too much stress on the back and the joints. The classic runner, the kind that you see running well into their older age, weighs in at around 120 pounds. If that is not you, think twice about running.
I quit running because, while I am not huge, at 190 pounds running was beginning to adversely affect me. It hurt my knees, hurt my feet and was starting to do some damage to my back. If you are a bigger guy, it is not a matter of if running will hurt you, but when.
At this point, you might be saying to yourself, what about those athletes pushing 250 pounds that are running. Well, those guys are in their 20’s. Ask them how they feel about running when they turn 40.
A Better Alternative
The better option to lose weight is circuit training. Circuit training, particularly the peripheral system that I use, allows you to run through 9 or 10 different exercises with little or no breaks. This allows you to get in a cardio workout while you do your resistance training. It is a much better way to get the heart going and it shortens up your workouts. As busy dads, this is important.
Check out this video and then join me 3 to 4 times a week for circuit training. A new full body workout every week.
