One Pound A Week For The Win
If you want to lose weight and keep it off, trying to lose two pounds a week is a horrible idea. Here is why.
- It is not sustainable.
With a deficit of 1000 calories a day, most people will not be able to stay with their diet. - It does not allow for proper nutrition.
There will be so few calories allotted that proper nutrition is difficult. You still need to get in protein, healthy fat and enough carbs to be able to work out. - It does not teach maintenance.
With a lower deficit diet, you learn how to eat once the diet is over. When you reach goal weight, simply add in a few extra calories and go about eating the way you have been for weeks. With no big changes, you are far more likely to maintain the weight.
As you can see, there are a number of reasons that trying to lose 2 or more pounds a week is a bad idea. Stick to a reasonable calorie restriction, add in some full body workouts and watch the pounds come off slowly but consistently.
